Tuscaloosa, AL – On Friday, September 18, the City of Tuscaloosa held the fifth annual Employee Excellence Awards at the Tuscaloosa River Market.

"I continue to be impressed by the talented employees who go above and beyond in service to our City and their peers," said Mayor Walt Maddox. "The dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment of these individuals exemplify what it means to be a true public servant. It is an honor to work alongside such remarkable people each day. Their contributions are the reason Tuscaloosa remains a community we can all be proud of."

The Excellence Awards program was created to recognize City of Tuscaloosa employees who show exemplary individual achievement, contribution and performance in their jobs. Employees were honored in multiple categories including: 25, 30 and 35 years of service; Cheers for Peers; Excellence Awards; Mayor’s Excellence Awards; and Emerging Leaders. Emerging Leaders was designed to identify and develop the next generation of leaders at the City of Tuscaloosa. 

"The Employee Excellence Awards has become one of my favorite traditions," LaShonda Kemp, Chief Human Resources Officer said. "Each year, I look forward to shining a light on more of our incredible employees and their commitment to the City. Much of the work they do can go unnoticed, which is why it’s so meaningful to have events like this that allow us to recognize and celebrate them."

The City recognized over 90 employees during this event.
