City of Tuscaloosa Hosts 2025 National Community Development Week

The City of Tuscaloosa’s Office of Community and Neighborhood Services (CNS) will host the 2025 National Community Development Week from April 21-25 to showcase the positive impact of two longstanding federal grant programs, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) on the Tuscaloosa community.
 
This year, CNS has designed activities aimed to increase residents’ awareness, education and engagement on how these programs work within the Tuscaloosa community. 
 
Tuscaloosa’s 2025 National Community Development Week theme is “Weaving the Future: A Tapestry of Community Development,” with each event showcasing a unique way CDBG and HOME are interwoven throughout the Tuscaloosa community. 
 
Activities throughout the week include:
 
  • Monday, April 21: The Thread of Service: Tying Tuscaloosa Together
    • Community Service Drive for CDBG and HOME nonprofit partners
  • Monday, April 21: A Pattern of Voices: Consolidated Public Hearing
    • 2025 – 2029 Consolidated Plan, 2025 Action Plan, and 2025 Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice
    • 5 – 7 p.m. at Daugherty Conference Room – City Hall
  • Tuesday, April 22: Woven Wellness: Healthy Homes, Stronger Futures
    • ​​​​​​​A Healthy Homes Workshop hosted by Community and Neighborhood Services, Housing Counseling Agency and Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa
    • Prior registration is required
    • 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Regions Board Room – Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama
  • Thursday, April 24: Future Fest: Stitching Solutions for Tuscaloosa’s Tomorrow

The City of Tuscaloosa has utilized CDBG and HOME funds to address homelessness, revitalize neighborhoods, promote homeownership opportunities and provide tenant-based rental assistance, home repairs, education and other services to elderly persons, persons with disabilities and children and leverage millions of dollars in additional public and private investment within the Tuscaloosa community.
